'By contrast, DxO DeepPRIME adopts a holistic approach and combines the two steps into one, giving exceptional performance. DxO writes, 'Thanks to billions of carefully selected input and output samples, the artificial intelligence 'learned' the two fundamental operations of any RAW photo editing process: demosaicing and denoising.' Traditionally, RAW editors perform demosaicing and denoising across separate steps, resulting in softer images with more noise. The technology relies upon artificial intelligence trained using billions of input and output samples.

With PureRAW 2, it's now possible to process RAW files within the macOS Finder or the Windows File Explorer.Īt the heart of DxO PureRAW 2 is DeepPRIME.

You can also use PureRAW 2 as a standalone app to prepare files before importing them into your photo software of choice. For example, if you use Adobe Lightroom, you can use DxO PureRAW 2 inside Lightroom to get the most quality out of your RAW files while still using Lightroom to perform all your edits. If you're not familiar with PureRAW, it takes the same great DxO DeepPRIME RAW demosaicing and noise reduction technology as DxO's all-in-one editor, PhotoLab, and lets you use it without changing your existing workflow. Even though I really like PhotoLab and ViewPoint, sometimes DxO does things that baffle me.This week, DxO released DxO PureRAW 2, the latest version of its RAW processing app and plugin. Maybe DxO wants to keep PhotoLab 2 working as an additional option for these people, who are paying for DxO Nik Tools version 3, on the hope that one day they will also pay for PhotoLab 3 (or 4 or whatever) as an addition to or replacement for Adobe Lightroom and/or Photoshop. DxO included PhotoLab 2 Essential at no extra cost with DxO Nik Tools version 2. DxO thinks it can lure some of them to PhotoLab. Here's a theory: there are people who use the Nik tools with Adobe (and also others, e.g. Benefit from a non-destructive workflow with the ability to export original files.

Access the new Efex Perspective plugin via the Selector Plugin. I found the info in the changelog and on the face of it the most relevant appears to be compatibility with the newest Nik Collection3?

But in the future I might give Nik a go as I think it bring more "manual control" over the edition (especially for B&W in Silver Effex) I don't think I will because DXO PL Elite + Filmpack and Viewpoint are good enough for me.

If this brings a few more nice things and the upgrade price is still around 80€, I might buy the upgrade.Īnyway, you can be on DXO PL 2, like me, and want to use Nik, here you have a pretty good reason to buy Nik as finally it integrates with you workflow (I never really tried Nik precisely for that reason, I need it to work as a plugin or at least have an easy way to export to Nik, make change, then back to DXO). So I decided to wait and see what version 4 will bring.

There are nice improvements, for exemple the new colour editor is very very good and the keyword manager has been upgraded, but these are not enough for me to pay extra to switch. For me, I'm on DXO 2 but Windows 10, simply because I've tried DXO PL 3 but didn't buy it.
#Customising dxo photolab 2 update#
The only reason I'm still on PL 2 is that PL 3 won't run on WIn7, and neither will Nik 3, so this update is for people still on PL 2 but who are on Win10, and who have updated to Nik 3? Seems a little strange to me, if the only change is for compatibility with the new Nik Collection 3.
